אֶחָד Strong’s #259 ehhad

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Genesis 2:24

The word ehhad is often used for “one,” but can also be translated with the word “unit,” something that is part of the whole, a unit within a community. In the Hebrew mind everything is, or should be, a part of a unity. There is not one tree, but a tree composed of units within the unity: roots, trunk, branches and leaves. A tree is also in unity with the other trees: the forest. A son is a unit within the brotherhood and the family
