Strong’s #127

And no plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for YHWH God had not caused it to rain upon the earth: and there was not a man to till the ground.

Genesis 2:5

Because of the reddish color of soil, this Hebrew word is derived out of the Hebrew parent root dam (Strongs #1818) meaning blood. Another word derived from this root is adom (Strongs #122) meaning “red” and is also another name for Esau, the brother of Jacob (Genesis 25:30). Another related word is adam (Strongs #120) meaning “man,” from the blood that runs through his veins, but also because adam, the first man, was taken from the adamah and his dam will return to the adamah.
